PEN is an acronym for Participate, Envision and Navigate. We see these three components of our identity as three imperatives to live by, similar to the three spiritual forces that the Apostle Paul mentions – faith, hope and love. At PEN we start our journey with love.

Participate
It is only in love that we can truly participate in our community. We acknowledge that the best we can give to our community members is ourselves. Wholeheartedly. In sitting and walking with a community member we earn the respect to become part of their story and in so doing, we gain a deeper understanding and can thus help more meaningfully.
Envision
Once we see what the community members see, we can start recasting that view with new possible visions of a future. Together we dream about new possibilities and choose the best options going forward. This provides the community member with hope, invigorating him towards a new future.
Navigate
Maintaining a hopeful energy on the road to success is often challenging. The only way to reach the goal is through faith with people believing in you, helping you to navigate the arduous journey. Faith is the assertive confidence and trust in what we hope for but can not see. It is this kind of faith which pushed Edison to develop the lightbulb and Mandela to hold fast to his dream of a new South Africa, no matter what. It is this same faith that will help us navigate towards our vision of a society where everyone belongs and thrives.
